Why does the caged bird sing?

Freedom was a body, bruised and battered; a stomach aching from hunger; a mind numbed by the sights and sounds of hate. I bask in my captivity, comforted, at peace. The dark side offered hope. I will sing whatever song they ask.

  1. Reminds me of people who prefer to live an institutionalised life because they can’t cope on the outside. Prefer the protection and order the state provides.

  2. This made my own stomach twist…but the wording you used was wonderful. It was just the right mix of sadness and hope for a pain-free existence , at any cost. Even the loss of freedom.
